If you are looking forward to something that is going to happen, you want it to happen because you think you will enjoy it.

He's looking forward to going home.

Note that you do not say that someone is `looking forwards to' something.

Forward is also used as an adjective. A forward movement is one in which someone or something moves forwards.

...the impetus of his forward movement.

The mercury would be slammed back in its cavity by the forward rush of the bullet.

When forward has this meaning, it can only be used in front of a noun.

'forward' used as a verb
Forward is also used as a verb. If you forward a letter to someone, you send it on to them when they have moved to a different address.
